work...work....work.....OILERS!!
I have now officially started my job at the stollery and absolutely love it!! Today was my third and final 12 hour work day this week. A real killer if your not used to 12 hour shifts. But the most exciting news is that I met/saw the oilers. Not all of them, but the ones that matter....Smyth, Hemsky, Stoll. It was quite exciting as this team of blue, tall, handsome men walked down our unit, talking with the kids and signing autographs. The kid I was watching for the day didn't know who the oilers were (he's 3 years old) so he was pushing them out of the way so that he could play with his toys!! It was quite funny. I am looking forward to future visits as I was told that they "pop" in every so often.

Burning Sponges

Love sponges in the kitchen but not the spread of household germs? Keep your sponges neat and clean simply! Each morning, rinse your sponge with a little soap. Leaving it wet, microwave it for three minutes. Be careful as it will be steamy! Kills up to 99% of germs...
Key phrase in this last sentence....LEAVING IT WET, I saw this news story warning people of this as many microwaves went up in flames because the sponges or dish cloths were not wet. Just in case you didn't know this I thought I would post it. So don't burn down the house.

Braving The Line

What can you do in 8 and a half hours.....work a full day, drive to the mountains and then back, or fly to Toronto and fly back, make a friend or break a heart....OR you could stand in line just to have someone take a bunch of forms. Yes thats right Glen and I stood/sit in line for up to 8 and a half hours to get our passports in! Although it took the whole day our passports should be coming in 4-6weeks!! Which is kinda exciting as we both have never had a passport. It was a day well spent and I would recommend it to all of you deprived of some excitement in your life. Arriving at 6:15 in the morning, only to sit in the 400th or so spot is quite exciting. Besides the wait, we made some new friends and met up with some old ones. All in all a great day!
Tips for anyone wanting to brave the line:
-bring a lawnchair (major back saver)
-bring something to read or watch or listen to
-bring a friend(quite handy for the frequent walks and bathroom breaks)
-dress comfortable but stylish as the News Crews are everywhere!

New Job
Last night was my last shift at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. I absolutely will miss it! Especially the people....they were all nice, which is quite different, for a unit full of women nurses and five men. I will miss them all though. I was lamenting my going to one of my patients yesturday, and she looked me straight in the eye and said "real friends never leave". Which made the whole experience better. On the other hand, as sad as I am for leaving, my new job is going to be AWESOME!! I am going to be working at the University of Alberta Hospital with childern in the Stollery Childern's Hospital. I am so excited it has been my dream to work with kids since I graduated. So it's going to be a major learning curve...but at least it keeps life interesting.
(The picture is of my graduating class...sorry it's hard to see me, I'm the tall one, in white....middle row, 7th from the right)

Cellphones

No matter which conversation I have on the cellphone with Glen it seems to always cut out. It is so frustrating sometimes. But then again they have saved trips and are always handy to have when you want to meet with someone.
Here's my pros and cons list...
PROS-you can talk to someone at any time and anywhere you want(mostly), they're handy for the last minute pop-in visit's with friends, when at the store and you don't know what kind of cereal your Dad likes you can always phone, you always know where your family is, great for emergencies
CONS-they always seem to go out of range in the middle of something important, the battery always runs out exactly when you need to make an important phone call, you can lose them, people depend on you to answer them no matter what, family always knows where you are, they can be a major distraction while driving

Mouse Escapades
I know, I know another post about animals. But this one is much smaller and cuter to look at. Yes the house mouse!
We've had them in our basement for years and every so often espeically in these colder days we get more. Glen has been trying to de-mice the trailer before I move in. He has a candy bowl on the counter and was wondering why the candies were dissappearing without him eating them. Then he found the culpirt one day sitting in the bowl munching away at the wrapper to get the candy. Traps are set and food (the bad kind) was spread. Hopefully we catch the candid stealer before they start to multiply!

WOLF!!
No this is not the blogger who called wolf I actually saw a really wolf this past Saturday!! We went skiing in Jasper and on the way there we saw all these cars off to the side of the road. Thinking, oh, it's just some deer or something and these tourist were crazy. I saw something black, jet black! I thought it was a bear but as we drove closer it was a huge black wolf with green beady eyes staring right at me. Literally, he was as tall as the car!! It sent chills up my spine.
It reminded me of the werewolf from Harry Potter. SCARY!! My Dad later reminded me of my great-grandma when she was a teenager it was her turn to bring the cows in from the pasture. While bringing them in a pack of wolves chased her and the cows. She couldn't run fast enough so she held on to the tail of the cow, and prayed hard, as the wolves nipped her toes. True story!! I would never want to run into something like that alone in the forest.

Laundry Time

It's time to bite the bullet and shape up on my laundry. I have been neglecting them for several weeks now and realized last night that I had to work this morning and all my scrubs were dirty. New Year's resolution : don't let dirty laundry pile up and make a mess of my room and the laundry room. Mom might appreciate it, needless to say Glen.
